Youth Academy

About the Program


This free, week-long course is designed for students ages 14-18 who have an interest in the field of criminal justice. Taught by law enforcement personnel, the Youth Academy offers participants the opportunity to learn about specific elements of the law enforcement profession, such as:

  • Backgrounds and Recruiting
  • Bomb Squad Unit
  • Crime Prevention / Community Policing
  • Crime Scene Investigations
  • Gang Identification and Prevention
Participants also tour local law enforcement agency stations and participate in interactive and physical training exercises.

Students will be required to pass a background check and must have parental consent. 

The 2021 Youth Academy was held June 14-18.  During the weeklong program, participants learned how to fingerprint a crime scene by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab; toured the Public Safety Complex; learned about Emergency Vehicle Operations; used the Use of Force simulator; saw a presentation by the ACSO/Dublin Police K9 unit; took a tour of Santa Rita Jail; saw a presentation from the UAV or drone unit; experienced the ACSO Confidence Physical Agility Course; and had a presentation by the ACSO SRU (SWAT) team.

The 2022 Youth Academy will be held in June 2022.  Please check back in April or May of 2022 to learn how to register for the program.
