Effective July 1, 2012, the State of California instituted a mandatory commercial recycling statute, requiring all businesses that generate four cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week to subscribe to recycling services. “Business” includes public and private, for-profit, and non-profit organizations. Multi-family complexes with five or more units are also required to comply.
The City would like to let businesses know that if you are not currently recycling you can and should be able to save money when you add recycling to your business. Recycling collection is included at no additional cost in your garbage collection rates and organics collection costs 50% less than regular garbage service; so, if you add recycling and/or organics collection service, you should be able to reduce the size of your garbage containers, which will save you money. For the complete statute, go to Commercial Recycling Regulation.
